Sometimes pain in your abdomen is directly associated with something you ate or other digestive distress, such as nausea or vomiting. But, pelvic and lower abdominal pain may also be steady, dull, and spread out or come in sharp, stabbing waves at specific locations. Severe pain can interfere with your ability to exercise, work, or function
Women may experience extreme pain around the time of ovulation or menstruation, or during sexual intercourse. For women, this may indicate an issue with a reproductive organ, including your uterus or ovaries. Men may experience pelvic and abdominal pain, too. Often pain in men is associated with the urinary tract, lower intestines, or prostate.
Muscular tightness and imbalance, nerve irritation, and postoperative scarring can also be the culprit. Injury to the hips, lower spine, and pelvis can cause chronic pelvic pain, too.
Dr. Parmar may use blood and other lab tests and order diagnostic imaging exams to help determine the cause of your pain. He’ll perform a comprehensive physical exam and review your medical history, your family history, and carefully consider your symptoms. In cases of suspected reproductive issues, he may refer you to a specialist for further analysis.
Dr. Parmar offers comprehensive treatments for chronic pelvic and abdominal pain. He may prescribe medications and refer you to a physical therapist to help relieve muscle dysfunction that’s responsible for your pain.
In cases in which nerve entrapment or irritation is responsible for your pain, Dr. Parmar may recommend ultrasound-guided injections. During this treatment, he uses an ultrasound machine, which utilizes sound waves to create a picture of your pelvic and abdominal region. He can then pinpoint the exact points that benefit from the application of the medication and directs the needle to this precise point.
Guided injections can be more effective than oral pain medications because they provide medication to the exact point of pain, rather than providing diffuse pain relief unnecessarily spread across your entire body.
Don’t live with chronic pelvic and abdominal pain any longer. Call Alleviate Pain or schedule an appointment online to have it diagnosed and treated effectively.
